New Mexico: Former walk-on who turned in the most remarkable seasons by a kicker in UNM history in 2007...went from a virtual unknown, even on his own team, to the third consensus All-America honoree in program history in the span of one semester…suffered what many thought was a career-ending torn ACL in his left plant leg while attempting a tackle, but made a stunning recovery without surgery. 2007 (SENIOR): Turned in an incredible debut season, setting a school and conference record, and leading the nation with 29 field goals (35 attempts) in 12 games played...first team all-MWC selection who became the third Lobo to be named to the consensus All-America team, earned first team All-America accolades from ESPN.com, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, and The Sporting News led the nation with an average of 2.42 FGs per.. after a 1-3 start to his career, he hit a school record 18 consecutive field goals before finally missing on his fifth and final attempt vs. Air Force on Oct. 25...82.9% conversion rate was second among the 7 players with at least 30 attempts...was 11-13 on FGs of 40+ yards, including a long of 53 - which tied for the 2nd-longest in UNM history and was the longest by a Lobo since 1988...was a perfect 11-11 on FGs of 40+ before missing his final 2 in the New Mexico Bowl (one blocked)...he won four games for the 9-4 Lobos this fall with his FGs providing the winning margin in games at Arizona (29-27), at San Diego State (20-17), vs. Air Force (34-31) and vs. Colorado State (26-23)...10-12 on 4th quarter FGs, including the game-winner as time expired on Nov. 10 vs. Colorado State...10 multiple FG games tied the FBS single season record set by West Virginia’s Matt Woodside in 1982...5 games with 3+ FGs - 1 shy of the FBS record - and 2 games with at least 4 FGs...30-31 PATs and tops in the league (10th nationally), averaging 9.8 points/game (117 total - 2nd in UNM history)...earned MWC Special Teams Player of the Week honors 4 times in his debut season, tying the school record former QB Graham Leigh set in 1997 (WAC)...did not take the field at TCU on Nov. 3 (no PAT/FG chances).
