Ice Pick Up Two

May 8, 2008

Fort Collins, Colo. – The Colorado Ice Indoor Football team (3-5) announce the signing of K John Sullivan and DL Joey Madrid.  Both are Mountain West Conference athletes, coming from the University of New Mexico and Colorado State University.

Sullivan, originally from Tehachapi, Calif., was a walk-on for the Lobos and played his senior season (2007) after suffering a torn ACL in his left leg during spring training.  Skipping surgery, Sullivan stuck to a rehab and workout program to build his leg strength and emerged as one of the top candidates for the starting position.  Sullivan earned MWC Special Teams Player of the Week honors twice and posted the third longest streak in consecutive field goals in the NCAA.  Prior to UNM, Sullivan attended San Jose State University, but hadn’t kicked in a game since his high school days dating back to 2002.  Sullivan graduated from Tehachapi High School where he lettered in football, soccer and golf.

A Colorado native, Madrid joins the Ice after completing his senior year with the Rams as a long snapper.  He played in seven games in 2007, helping K Jason Smith convert all 33 PAT attempts.  Prior to CSU, Madrid attended Panhandle State University for a year and was an All-State selection from La Junta High School.

Colorado will continue their three game home stand when they host Wichita this Saturday, May 10, for the Mother’s Day game.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.  RiverCity will visit the Budweiser Events Center the following Saturday, May 17, to wrap up the home series with Military Appreciation Night.
