Fort Collins, Colo. -
The Billings Outlaws (8-4) stunned the Colorado Ice professional indoor football team (4-8) Saturday night at Metra Arena by a final 76-46 decision. Billings took a 4-2 lead in the all-time series record with Colorado and won two out of three games this season.
Billings opened the scoring with a 14-0 run in the first quarter on two passes from QB Chris Dixon to WR Robert Reed. The Ice would add a field goal from kicker John Sullivan for their only points of the first quarter.
DB Dorsey Golston had a critical breakup at the start of the second quarter on the goal line, but it wasn’t enough momentum for the defense to hold off Billings. The two teams generated 62 points among them in the second quarter alone. After an Outlaws penalty advanced the ball to the Billings three, RB Terry Washington ran in his first of four touchdowns for the night. The teams would alternate touchdowns the remainder of the half to go in 48-31. QB Garrett Mehl hit WR’s Brian Sump and George Hill and Washington added a second score, but Billings answered with an unbelievable catch at the buzzer.
Washington ran in to pull within ten to start the third quarter, but the Outlaws didn’t back down and added a Dixon run and a TD off the first turnover of the game. Eugene Phillips would notch a big sack and fumble recovery on the next drive to put Billings up 69-38 and would add their final seven when Dixon hit Reed with 5:55 on the clock. The Ice would add one final score from Washington to finish the game, down 76-46.
The Ice will close the season with two regular season games at home; June 6 at 7:30 p.m. against the Sioux Falls Storm for Hometown Heroes Night and June 13 at 7:30 p.m. against the Wichita Wild for Fan Appreciation Night.
