Fort Collins, Colo.- Colorado Ice (5-8) defensive back Travis Garcia has been named a co-defensive player of the week by the United Indoor Football League for his effort in the Ice's 29-24 victory over the defending champion Sioux Falls Storm last Friday at the Budweiser Events Center.
Garcia, a second-year All-Star pick, finished the game with six total
tackles (four solo, four assisted) and an interception returned for six
yards. He ranks fifth on the team in tackles and has tallied 3.5 TFL, three interceptions, two pass breakups, two fumble recoveries (one for a TD) and a forced fumble this season in 11 games. In 2007, Garcia played 15 games, recording 75 total tackles (51 solo, 48 assisted) which was good for second on the team. He led the team with 13 pass breakups and six interceptions for 96 yards and two scores.
The Ice will close the 2008 season with a home game against the United Indoor Football League's newest expansion team, the Wichita Wild, this Friday, June 13, at the Budweiser Events Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by an end-of-the-season tailgate party starting at 5:30 p.m. outside the front entrance.
