June 13, 2008

Fort Collins, Colo. - Friday the 13th proved to be lucky for the Colorado
Ice professional indoor football team (6-8) as they got their revenge on the
visiting Wichita Wild at the Budweiser Events Center, beating them by a
56-24 margin.  The Ice put up 302 total offensive yards to overcome the
Wild.

Colorado put the first points on the board with a field goal from K John
Sullivan halfway through the first quarter.  QB Garrett Mehl added six when
he connected with WR Brian Sump from 15 yards out and the Ice were up 10-0 after Sullivan's kick.  The teams combined for 39 points in the second quarter.  Wichita put up three on a 33-yard field goal from K Ziya Gunay. WR George Hill hauled in two TD passes from Mehl, a 20-yarder and a 41-yarder.  Wichita got two rushing TDs, both from RB John Randle.  DL Kurt Kissner added a safety with 3:27 left to make it 26-17 before Sump caught a 48-yard pass from Mehl at the buzzer to put the Ice up 32-17 at the half.

Sump opened the second half with another catch followed by a Sullivan field goal.  Wichita tallied the next eight points off a fumble recovery with a
failed kick and a rouge, bringing Wichita closer, 24-42.  But Colorado
dominated the fourth quarter, adding a two-yard passing TD from Mehl to WR Justin Gallas and a three-yard run from debut QB Allen Webb to finish 56-24.

Mehl led the offense, going 16-of-22 for 232 yards and six TD tosses.  Sump topped the receiving corp with 86 yards and three TD catches followed by Hill with 110 yards and two scores.  Gallas had the last receiving touchdown.  Webb had the only rushing TD, but RB Terry Washington had 43 rushing yards.  DB Dorsey Golston tallied 6.5 to lead the defense with a TFL and a pass breakup.  DB Travis Garcia had the solo interception for the team and added five tackles and one forced fumble.
